Family Birth Place
The Littlest Vikings Fan of the Month
St. Francis Regional Medical Center is proud to partner with the Minnesota Vikings to promote the unique childbirth experience that St. Francis’ Family Birth Place offers. During the 2008 NFL season, every baby born at St. Francis will receive a newborn sleeper co-branded with the St. Francis and the Minnesota Vikings logo. Additionally, fans and patients can participate in the “Littlest Vikings Fan” promotion by going to www.vikings.com or sending a picture of your infant wearing Vikings gear to littlestvikingsfan@vikings.nfl.net.* Monthly winners of the “Littlest Vikings Fan” contest will receive four (4) tickets to the Vikings vs. NY Giants game on December 28th, complimentary food and beverage, a VIP photo with Vikings Alumni, one (1) replica Minnesota Vikings jersey and one (1) signed Authentic NFL Football. (*Note: By submitting a photo to littlestvikingsfan@vikings.nfl.net, you are consenting usage of the photo for any purpose for Minnesota Vikings Football, LLC and/or vikings.com.)
Having your baby at St. Francis ensures that you will have family-centered, maternity care and education during this very important time. We are committed to providing holistic, healing care, while respecting your birthing choices and traditions. Our providers will be with you every step of the way, with healing concepts and state-of-the-art medical interventions to manage discomfort to help you focus on your journey of birth. St. Francis delivered over 1200 babies last year alone.
The unique partnership of St. Francis allows patients whose physicians are part of Allina Medical Clinics, Park Nicollet Health Services and independent physicians in the southwest metro area to use the Family Birth Place. Additionally, patients who use Park Nicollet Health Services have the option of using the Certified Nurse Midwives and their new “Centering Pregnancy” program. “Centering Pregnancy” is the first program of its type to be offered in the Twin Cities and allows small groups of expectant mothers to meet with nurse midwives for two-hour visits that include health assessments, education and support. To learn more about this program you can read the Star Tribune’s article about this unique program that can help reduce preterm births.

At the Family Birthplace
Your comfort is critical in the birth process. Because of this, we’ve designed our family birth rooms with beautiful décor and all the comforts of home. St. Francis was the first hospital in the country to offer all-LDRP (labor, deliver, recovery, post-partum) rooms, which means that after arrival, you’ll settle into one room for your entire stay, providing a relaxed environment in which your labor and birth can be a loving and rewarding experience.
Spacious accommodations allow your support person to stay with you, rest when needed and share every special moment. The inviting and comforting atmosphere – complete with rocking chairs, sleepers, televisions, VCRs, CD players create the perfect environment for your birth, as well as much-needed rest and recovery after your baby arrives. During 2008, rooms will be equipped with flat-screen TVs, DVD players and new furniture.
Special Care
Most women have uncomplicated pregnancies and births, and take healthy babies home. However, you can take comfort in knowing that the Family Birth Place is prepared to handle complications should they arise. If your infant is born prematurely, or has special needs, he or she will receive extra special care in our state-of-the-art level II nursery, which is staffed around the clock by neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs). Our expert staff will ensure that your baby receives the highest level of care and we will be in constant communication with you about your baby’s condition. To enhance the care of your baby, we provide a "Guesting Room" to you free of charge while your baby is in our special care nursery. In addition, support is readily available from Children’s Hospitals and Clinics and St. Francis boasts the southwest metro’s only Level III trauma center, should your baby need further assistance or evaluation.

Family and Friends
You’ll want to share the excitement of your new baby’s arrival! At the same time, you need to rest and recover as you begin another phase of your journey. Family Birth Place staff will assist you in balancing your need for rest with care activities and your time with family and friends. At St. Francis, there is no such thing as “visiting hours,” so your birth partner and your baby’s siblings and grandparents are welcome to be with you at anytime. Sleep accommodations for your partner are available. You may invite friends to spend short periods of time with you so that you have an opportunity to get the rest you need.
