Diagnostic Services
St. Francis Diagnostic Imaging Services provides painless, noninvasive examinations in a variety of areas. The population growth in our community, one of the fastest in the country, has contributed to St. Francis adding a number of new technologies.
The Siemens Somatom Sensation 16 Computerized Tomography (CT) scanner is state-of-the-art technology. The CT scanner has the added advantage of faster acquisition time; as it can perform a routine chest study in eight seconds or a view of the abdomen or pelvis in 8 to 10 seconds. The scanner will allow St. Francis physicians to view more orthopedic three-dimensional (3D) imaging and CT angiography.
In orthopedics the technology allows physicians to visualize the anatomy more accurately; this, in turn, allows better pre-operative planning. The new CT scanner and associated workstations possess numerous advanced software applications, including applications that assess disease of both the coronary arteries and coronary vessels.
The GE 1.5 Signa Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner is one of the most advanced ways of seeing into the human body, making it the preferred diagnostic tool for brain, spinal cord and joint disorders.
St. Francis also maintains other advanced diagnostic imaging technologies in the areas of general radiography (x-ray), fluoroscopy, mammography, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine.
To interpret the medical images, full-time radiologists are on staff daily. Radiologists also provide around-the-clock medical image interpretations via Allina's Enterprise Medical Imaging (EMI) technology. The technology acquires, displays, transfers and stores the medical images. The technology also replaces film and automates medical image interpretation and review.
