The Healthy Heart Scan, which is offered at St. Francis Diagnostic Services, uses breakthrough high-speed CT technology that does not require any intravenous contrast. All you are required to do is hold your breath for about 30 seconds while the CT scanner slides over your chest area as you're lying on your back, resting comfortably. You could be just a breath away from breathing easier about your heart health with this heart scan, which provides you and your physician with valuable information about the physical condition of your coronary arteries.

What's a calcium score?

Heart scans, also known as coronary calcium scans, provide pictures of your heart's arteries (coronary arteries). Doctors use heart scans to look for calcium deposits in the coronary arteries that can narrow your arteries and increase your heart attack risk. The result of this test is often called a coronary calcium score. A board-certified radiologist reviews your test results and a calcium score report is provided to you and your physician. Early detection of coronary artery disease can assist your physician in recommending treatment or lifestyle changes that can slow, stabilize, or even reverse coronary artery disease.
