Halloween Candy Buy Back
St. Francis Regional Medical Center staff gathered with the nearly 700 pounds of candy collected at the first ever St. Francis Regional Medical Center and Park Dental Halloween Candy Buy Back on November 2. Children were paid $1 per pound of candy donated, and for every pound collected, St. Francis will pay $2 to the new Jordan area Food Shelf. The candy will be sent to troops overseas. Children were encouraged to write notes to the troops to accompany the candy.
St. Francis and Park Dental want to encourage healthy food choices for kids because of our dedication to improve the health of the communities where we work, live, and play. Being healthy means more than just the absence of disease; it also involves prevention, which is an important strategy in promoting good health. Soaring rates of childhood obesity are an issue of increasing significance. During the past 30 years, the rate of obesity has more than doubled for preschool children and adolescents, while tripling for children aged 6-11. Visiting the dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great ways to promote dental health, but eliminating excess sweets can really help keep teeth and kids healthy. Kids can still have the fun of trick-or-treating, but now their piggy banks will benefit as well.

Thanks to our many sponsors, golfers, employees and volunteers, the 12th Annual “Tee One For Hope” Charity Golf Tournament was a great success. This was Rahr Malting’s first year as Title Sponsor for the event, which was held at Stonebrook Golf Club in Shakopee. The tournament raised more than $80,000 in support of the St. Francis Cancer Center. Additional leading sponsors included: Frauenshuh Companies, Klein Bank, Rotary Club of Shakopee, and St. Francis Auxiliary.
Bump, Set, and Spike Out Breast Cancer!
The Shakopee High School Girl's Varsity Volleyball team recently raised $2,300 for the St. Francis Breast Clinic in it's inaugural "Sabers Digging Pink" event to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Marti Auringer, Breast Clinic Coordinator, is pictured receiving a check from representatives from the girl's volley ball team. St. Francis was at the event providing information and education on breast cancer awareness.
