Building a Better You boothBuilding a Better You!

St. Francis Regional Medical Center co-sponsored the Shakopee Chamber Women’s Event “Building a Better You!” Friday, April 13, 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska. Local community members got a chance to meet WCCO News anchor woman, Amelia Santaniello; TV Fox 9’s The Cheap Chick; and Melissa Saigh, former Twin Cities Live TV Fashion Producer.

A fun “Speed Dating for Doctors” breakout session was offered providing the opportunity to meet and get to know local doctors.

St. Francis boothSuccessful Students: One at a Time Symposium Great Success

On Thursday, February 9th over 320 people attended a free education symposium called "Successful Students: One at a Time", hosted by St. Francis, Metropolitan Pediatric Specialists, Park Nicollet Clinic, and Prior Lake-Savage Community Education. Ten breakout sessions were offered to help parents, schools, and physicians learn how to work together in helping struggling kids succeed to the best of their ability.

This work was lead by Dr. Tim Johanson, Metropolitan Pediatrics, and Dr. Cindy Harvath, Park Nicollet Clinic, in collaboration with several southwest metro school districts. The symposium was a public kick off to the continuing collaboration between clinics, schools, and parents.

Bikes for Kidz

Free Bikes for Kidz

On Saturday, December 10, St. Francis participated in the Allina Hospitals and Clinics sponsored nation-wide “Free Bikes 4 Kidz” event. Over four hundred quality used bikes were donated to St. Francis from the local communities. They were then cleaned and refurbished for distribution to local children and adults in need.

Halloween Candy Buy Back

St. Francis in partnership with Allina Medical Clinic, Park Nicollet Clinic, and Park Dental – Shakopee sponsored the third annual Halloween Candy Buy Back event on Tuesday, November 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the main entrance lobby at St. Francis.

Children were paid $1 per pound of candy by St. Francis and for every pound of candy bought back, St. Francis donated $2 to the Jordan Area Food Shelf. The candy was sent to our military troops. Children were encouraged to write notes and draw pictures for the troops to accompany the candy. In the past two years, St. Francis has bought back 1,384 pounds from 400 local children.

Savage Medical Building Grand Opening

The Savage Medical Building was buzzing with people Saturday morning as it celebrated its opening with a VIP Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Community Grand Opening. Savage Mayor Janet Williams and St. Francis President Mike Baumgartner welcomed guests to Savage’s newest and only comprehensive medical services facility. This facility is now home to St. Francis Diagnostic Imaging, Specialty Clinic, Rehab and Sports Medicine, Capable Kids, Quello Clinic, and Twin Cities Orthopedics.

SnoopyStarting at 10 a.m., the community came in droves – more than 1,300 guests by the time the doors closed at 2 p.m. – to see the stunning facility first-hand. They met doctors and staff, won exciting prizes, toured the building, enjoyed kids games and face painting, and greeted Snoopy from Valleyfair. The community also took advantage of free screenings which included blood pressure checks; orthopedic, joint and muscle screenings; bone density heel screening; balance screening; and body composition screening. A special thank you to the 75 St. Francis staff members and volunteers who made this event possible!
